Prof. Rebecca Jester was awarded her Personal Chair (Professorship) in Orthopaedic Nursing from Keele University in 2008, and an Honorary Professorship in Orthopaedic Nursing Research by the University of Southern Denmark in 2017. Apart from Prof. Jester has led on a project with her Danish colleagues to promote research capacity and capability building with nursing colleagues working in Orthopaedic settings in Denmark, she also led one of the first postgraduate Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) courses in the UK (University of Birmingham) following a sabbatical to the United States to learn about ANP roles and their required academic and clinical training. She has worked herself across the interface of academic and clinical practice since 1995. She has consistently continued to practice as an ANP in Orthopedics part time whilst working in the University as a senior academic. She is committed to the advancement of nursing roles to support high quality evidence based care for patients in the specialty of Orthopedics and Trauma.
In Hong Kong, Prof. Jester supported the development and implementation of The Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Nursing Advanced Practice Fellowships and related examination processes from 2017-2020. She has involved advising on the training program for candidates and developing the assessment and examination strategy including participation in the annual examinations as an examiner for the written case studies and oral presentation of case studies with VIVA examination.
Prof. Jester has authored a number of leading text books in Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation nursing and has a track record of research and associated publications in clinical research (Orthopaedic care, lower limb joint arthroplasty and service improvement and innovation). She has a track record of evaluation consultancy focused on acute care in patients’ home (Hospital at Home) and developing educational resources to support nursing knowledge and skills.
