Ms. Wong contributed a lot to the professional development and education of nurses and other healthcare workers. She was appointed by the Nursing Council of Hong Kong in 1997 as a c0-opted member to participate in the Registration Committee, Professional Development Committee, and Education Committee. Furthermore, she was nominated as the convener of a “Syllabus Review Group” for developing a New Syllabus for the transition of hospital-based nursing training to university education. Consequently, a new syllabus was formulated to guide the curriculum development of university nursing degree programmes.
During the SARS pandemic in Hong Kong, Ms. Wong led a special group of nurses to develop a set of Infection Control Guidelines for nurses, medical and allied grades staff in The Department of Health in connection to the prevention of the spread of SARS in the community. She also organized training programmes for all staff concerned. Her active participation and outstanding contributions to combating SARS pandemic in protecting population health were highly appreciated by the Department and HK Government. In 2005, Ms. Wong was awarded the Director of Health’s Commendation on Outstanding Performance and The Chief Executives’ Commendation for Government/Public Services.
Ms. Wong was the Founding President of the Hong Kong Society for Public Health Nursing. The establishment of the Hong Kong Society for Public Health Nursing (HKSPHN) in 011 heralded the formation of a professional organization in the history of public health nursing in Hong Kong. She is the Honorary Advisor of the Society since 2013. Ms. Wong had laid the foundation of standardizing and developing advanced practices in public health nursing profession in PHKAN. She had made concerted efforts to work with Fellow nurses, healthcare professionals and stakeholders to promote the vision and mission of HKSPHN for the benefits of both the profession and the entire population.
