Ms. Chung completed her nursing training in 1979 at Caritas Medical Center in Hong Kong. She is the first Hong Kong nurse who attained a Master degree in Hospice and Palliative Care in the United Kingdom. Immediately after her return to Hong Kong in 1982, she was invited to initiate the first Palliative Care Team at Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital. She worked hand in hand with Sister Helen Kenny and Dr. Yu Wing Kwong, and their pioneer service laid the foundation of Palliative Care in Hong Kong.

In 1992, Ms. Chung was appointed Nursing Director of the Bradbury Hospice, which was established by the Society for the Promotion of Hospice Care, a charitable organization founded in 1986 to promote hospice care in Hong Kong.

She pioneered palliative nursing in Hong Kong with a mission to improve the quality of care for the terminally-ill cancer patients and end-of-life care.

In appreciation of Ms. Chung’s dedication, commitment and leadership in the development of the hospice and palliative care, she was granted an award as one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons” by the Junior Chamber International Hong Kong (JCIHK) in 1993.

In order to promote palliative nursing in Hong Kong, Ms. Chung supported the establishment of the Hong Kong Hospice Nurses’ Association which is currently named as Hong Kong Palliative Nursing Association. She was the Advisor and now the Patron of the Association to build up the competency of palliative care for nurses. Ms. Chung had been actively involved in the curriculum development of the palliative nursing care both in Hospital Authority and other Professional Associations.

Currently, Ms. Chung serves the community through her work in family therapy, trauma healing and spiritual direction, and continues to provide training in palliative care, therapeutic communication, counseling, bereavement, trauma care and spiritual direction.
